Friends of John William Education Center
the history of FJWEC
FJWEC began in March 2000, after a remarkable storm blew the brand new roof off of the John William Montessori School in Kumasi, Ghana, leaving five classrooms open to the elements. Some machines were damaged and many classroom materials were lost, included thousands of newly printed notebooks.

We set about raising funds by organizing a dinner dance on June 16, 2000 at Christ Church-United Methodist, Park Avenue, New York. Almost $3000 was raised - enough to pay for most of the repair of the roof, although not enough to replace the materials and equipment.
We continue to support the school and have also seen the need for education in HIV / AIDS Awareness and training in Conflict Resolution.
